For this article in the course JOUR 4010 (Freelance Writing) we were tasked to write a 600- to 800-word story on any member of the Kamloops Blazers’ organization or a club promotional event.

I focused on European defensemen Vojtech Vochvest and Matteo Koci from Czechia. I wanted to explore their experiences adapting to life in Canada and with a new team, as well as delve into topics such as who has helped them the most since moving to Kamloops, how they are helping each other, culture shock, and struggles with English.

As an international student myself, I felt a connection to their experiences and was keen to understand their point of view. Despite the article revolving around sports, I believed their insights could resonate with anyone who has experienced moving to a new country or adapting to a new environment.

A field trip was conducted to the Sandman Centre, where we were given an opportunity to interview the players. This was a valuable experience that allowed me to capture their perspectives and share their stories with readers. Overall, the assignment provided me with a deeper understanding of the challenges and rewards of adapting to a new life abroad.
